Why Basic XL....why not Basic XE?

I do remember there being advantages
and disadvantages between the two,
however....

it can be upgraded to 640 for about 30 bucks!
thats why it is also an IBM , but even more interesting it can be used as
a slave drive with better capacity for the atari 8 bit.

I am looking for a RGB Monitor that will hook to my ST. Of course with a
special cable. My Atari SC1224 Color Monitor just took a nose dive to
the Monitor Junk yard. It is going to cost to much to repair and I just
don't have the cash for it. So if you have a Color RGB Monitor laying
somewhere, let me know. I am getting sick of looking at a Blue/Black
screen.

I don't think you gave a legal internet address there...
you can send internet e-mail to freenet either by using:
(I'll use your account as an example)
bx226@po.cwru.edu

or

bx226@cleveland.freenet.edu

I'm not 100% sure of the latter since I always use the first form...
less keys to press....

Your form will definitely not work...'specially with the comma in
there.....;-)

Well, i just got the monitor fixed. The Repairman did it and his price
was reasonable. If your monitor is dieing also, maybe he can look at it.
He charged me $40 (Which if I took it anywhere else, It would cost 3-4
times that amount). And it is working like a champ/

As far as I know you can use BASIC XE for BASIC XL, I am unsure about
h other way around. I have been using BASIC XE in both my Atari 800xl and
1200XL and have had no problems.....the only thing is that BASIC XE will
make the L1 and L2 light flash sometimes, but this is nothing to worry
about...

Probably...all depends on what you want to do...
I know of a few instances where program would only work with Basic
XL and not Basic XE....forgot why...
I could look into it if you like....you may also want to ask Michael
Current on Free-net...I forgot his id...but Current is the Atari 8 bit SIG
Operator...he's very very knowledgable on the Atari 8 bit...

Be careful ! The Basic in the 600/800xl's is Rev. B, it will write
garage on your disks and everything ! I have an 800xl and I know. You can
ge a program that will fix rev.B or replace it with Rev A (which has a
minor bug) or rev.c (in the XE/XEGS) or BASIC XL/XE

I believe what Rev B will do is add some garbage to the trailer of your
basic programs everytime you save them...

Two ways to solve it...one was was to list it to a file and "enter" it
to load it...this way is VERY slow...

Next way was to get a BASIC cartridge...

oooh, there's a third way...

Mapping the Atari XL book by Compute! has a program that fixes the bugs...
there are a few other fix programs floating around...
